Welcome to the Florida Association of Professional Geologists (FAPG)

The Florida Association of Professional Geologists (FAPG), the Florida Section of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG), is dedicated to protecting, promoting, and advancing the practice of geology throughout Florida. Our organization provides resources on membership, advocacy, licensing, and the essential role geologists play in safeguarding the state’s natural and built environments. Geology is critical to Florida’s safety and sustainability, from protecting groundwater and evaluating sinkholes to guiding development and disaster response. Recent legislative efforts to eliminate the Florida Board of Professional Geologists have threatened the integrity of our profession and public safety, but through coordinated advocacy, FAPG successfully defeated bills such as HB 991 and the amended SB 110. However, new challenges are expected, and maintaining professional licensure remains vital to ensure public protection, uphold standards, and preserve oversight in areas like water quality, geohazard mitigation, and environmental permitting. FAPG remains steadfast in defending professional accountability and environmental stewardship across the state.
